Schnucks Lindenwood to Open to Customers on Aug. 6

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The finishing touches are being put on the brand new Schnucks Lindenwood at University Commons and the store will open to customers at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Located at 1900 First Capitol Drive (63301) in St. Charles, the new Schnucks will replace the company’s 33-year-old store located at 800 S. Duchesne Road (acquired from National in 1995) just one mile away.  The Duchesne store will close permanently at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Schnucks President and CEO Todd Schnuck said, “We are excited to bring a unique, new store and new career opportunities to the St. Charles community.  At roughly 71,000 square feet, Schnucks Lindenwood is more than twice the size of the Duchesne location.  The larger format enables us to deliver a host of new offerings and services to meet the growing needs of today’s customers and, as a plus, 45 new positions across the store.”  Currently, there are 90 teammates at Schnucks Duchesne.

JoAnn Smashey, a 42-year career grocer, will take the helm as store manager at Schnucks Lindenwood.  Returning home to St. Louis after three years in the company’s Rockford market, Smashey is excited for customers to see their new store.

“We have made great use of the added space by expanding offerings and services in all departments including natural and organic, gluten-free and grass-fed products,” Smashey said.  “We will have one of the region’s largest selections of beer, spirits and wine varietals, and our produce, meat and seafood areas are considerably larger and include added services.  For instance, in our seafood area, Sushi is made fresh daily and our teammates will bake, steam or fry seafood purchases at no additional charge.”

Lindenwood customers will also be able to relax in the open air, climate-controlled café along with television and free Wi-Fi.  Smashey says, “An express register will make it easier for café customers enjoying pizza, Smoke & Grill items, hot Panini sandwiches or ready meals.  And on Friday and Saturday evenings, the café will be the backdrop for fun and entertainment.”

Representatives of Lindenwood University have been involved throughout the process and there are now plans to sell university approved spirit wear and accessories.

Schnuck said, “Many of our stores are located near college campuses, but this is the first time we’ve actually partnered with a university at this level and on a store that literally sits on the edge of campus.  Our vision is that Schnucks Lindenwood will be more than a food and pharmacy source for the community.  In many ways, we are nourishing people’s lives by providing a ‘home away from home’ – access to food and pharmacy education as well as restaurant, meeting, entertainment and study space in a comfortable environment.”

Schnuck added, “Over time, St. Charles residents including Lindenwood students, faculty, and staff will find that their new Schnucks store will continue to evolve to meet their needs.”

After opening day, the store hours will be 6 a.m. – midnight daily.
