Schnucks Customers Encouraged to Relive the Joy of Cooking

ST. LOUIS – On Saturday, Dec. 20, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the Richmond Center Schnucks store at 6600 Clayton Road (63117) will host retro-personality “Joy” – the personification of the famous cookbook The Joy of Cooking.  Joy will introduce Schnucks customers to the new line of frozen meal solutions inspired by the cookbook and now available at Schnucks stores in the St. Louis metropolitan area!

Through her efforts to put a delicious homemade meal on the table, Joy, played by actress Meisha Johnson, teaches us how to battle the “dragon within” who would rather seek out fast food than take time to experience the joy of homemade taste.

Dressed in 60s “TV Mom” clothing, Joy reminds us that although times have changed, the extensive Joy of Cooking frozen food line makes it easy to plan meals out and to put food on the table almost as fast as those pearl-wearing TV moms we all loved to watch in the kitchen.

Put the joy back into your family mealtime; join Joy at the Schnucks Cooks station where you will also find cooking demonstrations and product sampling.  The Arch Radio station (106.5 FM) will give away prize packages including Schnucks gift cards and coupons.  You will also find copies of The Joy of Cooking for sale at Schnucks. This timeless guide to cooking was written by the late Irma Rombauer of St. Louis.  She published the book herself in 1931 as a means to support her family.

In the meantime, you can watch Joy do battle with the dragon, also known as “The Kitchen Dragon of Dinnertime Stress” when you visit her website at

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 105 stores (including five Logli stores) and 101 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
