Customers are invited to "class" on Saturday, January 24.
ST. LOUIS –The expert Produce Teams at Schnucks are ready to teach shoppers about the fantastic fresh foods of the Chinese New Year. On Saturday, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Schnucks and Logli customers are invited to stop in for Frieda’s Produce University®, a fun, hands-on way to learn about the exotic fruits, vegetables and gourmet ingredients that make up the quintessential Chinese New Year feast.
One of the most important traditional Chinese holidays, Chinese New Year celebrations are a time of reunion, where families get together and celebrate over special feasts with foods to symbolize abundance, wealth, longevity and good fortune. The 15-day celebration begins on the first day of the first lunar month according to the Chinese calendar – January 26, 2009.
Taking place at all Schnucks and Logli locations in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi, the 8-hour Produce University® open-house provides an opportunity for customers to see, touch, taste and ask questions about a variety of Asian specialties.
The January 24th session will cover festive citrus fruits like Oroblancos, Kumquats and Pummelos, flavorful fresh Ginger Root and versatile Egg Roll and Won Ton Wrappers from Frieda’s. Other key ingredients include Frieda’s Asian noodle varieties (Chow Mein, Udon, Yakisoba), Mori-Nu Tofu, Daikon Radish, stir-fry vegetables such as Water-Packed Water Chestnuts, Bamboo Shoots and Baby Corn, as well as fresh Snow Peas, Sugar Snap Peas™ and Baby Bok Choy. Shoppers are welcome to drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to discover ways to incorporate these items into meals that celebrate the Year of the Ox. Various specialties will be sampled as part of this ongoing produce education program.
