Schnuck Markets Promotes Fontana to Vice President of Supermarket Development
ST. LOUIS – David G. (Dave) Fontana, 53, has been promoted to vice president of supermarket development at Schnuck Markets, Inc. Fontana follows Gordon Lyons who retires on May 9 after 35 years with the family-owned and operated grocery enterprise.
In his new position, Fontana will report to Craig Schnuck, executive committee chairman. Fontana will have responsibility for the company’s store growth plans and will be directly involved in property acquisitions, lease negotiations and associated real estate activities.
Fontana joined the company in 1985 as real estate administrator and was promoted to director of real estate development, the post he held prior to this latest move.
In his new capacity, Fontana will join the company’s executive planning group and will be in a position to provide input into the decisions that will guide Schnucks and 15,500 associates in more than 100 stores in seven states.
Fontana holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Creighton University and a master’s in urban affairs from St. Louis University.
Fontana and his wife, Jeanne, have three children and reside in Des Peres, Mo.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
