Culinaria, A Schnucks Market, a New Sign of Progress in Downtown St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – Downtown St. Louis residents and commuters are only a couple of months away from being able to enjoy their new grocery store – Culinaria – A Schnucks Market. Customers will see the first outward sign of progress when representatives of Midwest Sunray of Granite City, Ill. hoist the sign onto the building on Thursday, June 4 at 11 a.m.
The combination food and pharmacy store is being built by Legacy Building Group, LLC and is set to open on Aug. 11. Unlike the typical construction project, most of the work is being done on the inside, which according to Store Manager Tom Collora makes the project a bit of a mystery to those passing by. “Construction is going very well and the sign raising is just the latest cause for celebration,” Collora said.
“Schnucks was founded in North St. Louis in 1939 so this is a lot like returning home. We have always maintained a strong connection to the city of St. Louis, and it will be good to see our name on a building in the heart of downtown,” said Collora. “We see this new store as a tribute to our founders and to the St. Louis customers who have allowed us to serve them for the past 70 years. Later this summer, Schnucks is going to really give them something special!”
Culinaria – A Schnucks Market is located on the ground floor of the Ninth Street Garage at the corner of 9th and Olive Streets in downtown St. Louis. This new urban prototype is 21,000 square feet on the first level and 6,000 on the mezzanine. Culinaria will be the ninth Schnucks store in the city of St. Louis (67th in the metropolitan area).
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates a total of 105 stores (including five Logli stores) and 101pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
