AboutChairman's Message

To Our Valued Customers:

In January of 2014, Schnucks embarked upon a year-long 75th Anniversary celebration of our customers, teammates, community members and supplier partners  – generations of people who helped perpetuate my grandmother Anna’s dream that a small, family-owned grocery store could become a success by nourishing people’s lives.

Seventy-five years ago, my grandmother accomplished this by providing quality goods and services at value prices at her 1000-square-foot confectionery.  Although there was barely enough space for a counter and a meat cooler, the store served as a gathering place for families in north St. Louis.  With a commitment to ensuring well-rounded meals at every table, my grandmother joined by my grandfather, and then my dad and uncle, came up with ways to help make family mealtimes more filling and special celebrations more carefree.

The fact that I am able to communicate with the world simply by loading this message onto a website is evidence enough that we are living in a new age – one that my grandmother could not have imagined.  And yet, her philosophy is enduring.

My family and I, members of the third generation, are carrying forward that legacy of nourishing people’s lives as we grow to serve more customers in a continuously evolving industry and in a rapidly changing world.  Today, Schnucks operates 98 combination food and drug stores (averaging more than 60,000 square feet), a central kitchen, central bakery, floral design center and a warehouse complex.  Our growing pharmacy business consists of 94 in-store pharmacies and four Specialty Pharmacies including one inside Schnucks Infusion Solutions which provides in-home and on-site infusion therapy.

Our food, beverage and healthcare expertise continues to grow as our teammates seek to become stronger resources for our customers.  Our team of experts includes Certified Specialists of Wine, Certified Beer Servers, professional chefs, dietitians and FTD Certified Designers.

It’s all very humbling for me, as the fifth member of my family to serve as CEO of Schnuck Markets, Inc.  I took over for my brother, Scott, in March of this year, and now, I am the keeper of our family’s legacy.  I take my responsibilities to you and to our teammates very seriously.

I assure you that Schnucks will continue to provide you and your family with the products you want and need, along with values you deserve.  Schnucks will continue to serve new customers through growth and expansion.  We will continue to partner with communities to help improve the quality of life for all.  And, as we grow, we will continue to share our considerable expertise in food, beverage and pharmacy.

In other words, we pledge to do exactly as my family has done in service to customers for more than 75 years – that is, nourish people’s lives.  Each decade, customer needs and experiences change due, in part, to economic fluctuations and national as well as global influences.  What doesn’t change is our pledge to know our customers by name, treat teammates as members of the family and support every community we serve as if it’s “home.”

On behalf of my family and our company of 15,000 teammates, thank you for allowing us to come to work every day with a sense of purpose and commitment that comes from doing what we love for the people we care about in all communities we serve. Thank you for 75 years.
